Brian Jones is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bath. His research focuses on microbial pathogenesis, biofilm formation, and antibiotic resistance mechanisms, with a particular emphasis on Proteus mirabilis and urinary tract infections. He leads projects funded by organizations such as the National Biofilms Innovation Centre, Dunhill Medical Trust, and the Wellcome Trust. His work addresses clinical challenges in catheter-associated infections and the development of novel antibacterial coatings. Jones has supervised 5 doctoral students and contributed to over 56 peer-reviewed publications.
Key projects include:
- Commercialization of burn wound biofilm models for pre-clinical testing
- Infection-responsive catheter coatings to prevent biofilm-related blockages
- Microneedles to bypass gastrointestinal microbiota for antibiotic delivery
Research interests span biofilm dynamics, cationic biocide efficacy, and aptamer-based detection systems. His contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
