Dr. Lane Bekar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Medicine. His laboratory investigates neuromodulatory networks, particularly focusing on locus coeruleus function, glial cell contributions to neural signaling, and neurodegeneration mechanisms.
Research examines how neuromodulators regulate cerebral blood flow optimization relative to oxygen demand, astrocyte-mediated signaling pathways, and metabolic aspects of neurodegenerative conditions including Alzheimer's disease. Experimental approaches integrate electrophysiology, multiphoton imaging, and neuropharmacological techniques in whole-animal and brain slice preparations.
Recent publications explore neuropharmacology of lithium formulations, RAGE-dependent cognitive impairments during hyperglycemia, and astrocyte-mediated modulation of neural circuits. Investigations consistently address pathological mechanisms underlying cognitive dysfunction in metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders.
