Lance Wells is a Distinguished Research Professor at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, University of Georgia. His research focuses on glycobiology, cancer biology, and chemical biology, particularly exploring post-translational modifications and their roles in congenital disorders of O-glycosylation.
- Education: Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (Post-doctoral Fellow in Biological Chemistry), Emory University School of Medicine (Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), Georgia Institute of Technology (B.S. in Chemistry).
Research Interests include congenital disorders of O-glycosylation, viral spike proteins, and N-linked heterogeneity. His work provides foundational insights into the biological roles of O-glycan modifications.
Scientific Awards:
- Georgia Research Alliance Distinguished Investigator (2012-2017)
- Molecular and Cellular Proteomics ASBMB Lectureship (2016)
- Lamar Dodd Creative Research Award (2019)
- Distinguished Research Professor of UGA (2021)
Grants include serving as PI for the NSF BioFoundry: Glycoscience Research, Education, and Training (BioF:GREAT) initiative (2024). His leadership roles extend to directing the Integrated Life Science Umbrella PhD Graduate Program (2018-2023) and serving as President of the Society for Glycobiology (2024).
