Lance Bowen

Lance Bowen serves as Dean of the School of Science, Technology and Education at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), overseeing departments in Biology, Physical Sciences, Education, Computer Science, Cybersecurity Networking and Digital Forensics, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, and Architecture. He assumed this leadership role in 2017 after previously serving as dean of science at Truckee Meadows Community College in Nevada.

His academic foundation includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science and Health, Master of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences—all earned at the University of Nevada, Reno. Raised in rural Alaska, Bowen emphasizes hard work, ingenuity, and educational access.

Bowen's research trajectory spans environmental science, cellular biology, and health disciplines, now focused on advancing undergraduate research infrastructure. He spearheads the AACC Journal of Emerging Scholarship, secures external grants for student research funding, develops university partnerships, and establishes STEM scholarships. His initiatives prioritize creating hands-on research opportunities for community college students.

As an active administrator, Bowen directly engages students regarding research pathways and school programs. His grant-writing efforts specifically target resources for undergraduate research expansion and STEM student support, reflecting his commitment to democratizing research experiences at the community college level.
