Lama Mourad is an Assistant Professor at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto. Her research explores the intersection of forced migration, local governance, and border politics in the Middle East, utilizing qualitative methods.
Her work has been supported by prestigious institutions such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and the University of Toronto Chancellor’s Fellowship. She has also received grants from the Project on Middle Eastern Political Science (POMEPS) and the American Political Science Association’s First Generation Scholar’s Initiative.
Mourad previously held postdoctoral fellowships at Perry World House (University of Pennsylvania) and Harvard University, as well as a pre-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Kennedy School’s Middle East Initiative. Her publications appear in academic journals including the Journal of Refugee Studies, Middle East Law and Governance, and the European Journal of International Relations, alongside public outlets like The Atlantic, Lawfare, The Washington Post, and The Toronto Star.
