David Mednicoff serves as Department Chair and Associate Professor of Middle Eastern Studies and Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts. His research examines connections between legal/political institutions and ideas, focusing on contemporary Middle Eastern issues in countries including Morocco, Qatar, Tunisia and the UAE.
He is currently completing a book on the politics of the rule of law in Arab societies. His scholarly recognitions include a Fulbright Senior Scholarship in Qatar (2006-7), a Qatar National Research Fund grant, and fellowships at Georgetown University's Center for International and Regional Studies and Harvard Kennedy School's Dubai Initiative. He has received the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award and a national teaching prize for pedagogy on US-Middle East relations.
Courses taught include 'Water, Oil and Blood: The Middle East in Global Policy', 'Comparative Public Policy', and 'Globalization'.
