Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lam Ba Nam is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology and Religious Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Born in 1954, he has been teaching since 1983 and was appointed Associate Professor in 2002. With a PhD earned in 1995, Dr. Nam specializes in the cultural anthropology of Vietnam's ethnic groups, with particular focus on the Viet-Muong language group.
Dr. Nam's educational background includes History studies at Hanoi University from 1973-1983. He is proficient in English and French, which has facilitated his international academic collaborations. His academic career spans over four decades at USSH, where he has contributed significantly to the development of anthropology and ethnic studies in Vietnam.
Dr. Nam's research interests focus on community culture of ethnic groups in Vietnam, ethnic issues and policies, traditional crafts of ethnic communities, and the Viet-Muong language group. His work examines how traditional cultural practices persist and transform in contemporary Vietnam, particularly among ethnic minorities. He has conducted extensive fieldwork on traditional weaving techniques, ethnic festivals, and cultural preservation efforts across various regions of Vietnam.
Dr. Nam has published extensively on ethnic relations, cultural heritage, and policy development related to ethnic minorities in Vietnam. His recent work has increasingly focused on cross-border cultural exchanges between Vietnam and China, sustainable development in ethnic minority regions, and the preservation of traditional knowledge systems. His publications demonstrate a consistent commitment to understanding the complex interplay between cultural identity, policy frameworks, and socioeconomic development for Vietnam's diverse ethnic communities.
