معرفی
Laird Close is a Professor in the Department of Astronomy and an Astronomer at Steward Observatory, University of Arizona. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 1995.
Education
- Ph.D., The University of Arizona, 1995
Research Interests
Laird specializes in novel astronomical observations using adaptive optics (AO) instrumentation to study low-mass stars, brown dwarfs, extrasolar planets, and solar system objects like Titan at high resolution. His work extends to infrared astronomy, galactic astronomy, star formation, and astrobiology, with a focus on developing advanced AO systems and high-contrast infrared cameras.
Professional Roles and Contributions
He serves as the head scientist (Principal Investigator) for the Magellan Adaptive Secondary AO system in Chile. His research leverages AO technology to remove atmospheric blurring, enabling groundbreaking studies in extrasolar planet imaging and binary asteroid analysis.
