Laila Tingvold

Laila Tingvold is an Associate Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in the Department of Health Sciences, part of Gjøvik Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. She holds a PhD in transcultural psychiatry from the University of Oslo (2012) and advanced degrees from the University of Cambridge (MSc Development Studies, 1999; MPhil European Intellectual History, 1997). Her research focuses on municipal health systems, long-term care services, and marginalized groups including immigrants/refugees. She co-leads a comparative study on aging-in-place with UC Berkeley's School of Social Welfare.

Key research areas include welfare mix dynamics, professionalization trends in care sectors, and global health equity. Recent work examines pandemic impacts on nursing home residents and volunteer integration strategies. She has conducted fieldwork across Africa, Asia, and Latin America using participatory methods. Over 30 peer-reviewed publications and multiple reports address care service organization, multicultural staffing challenges, and policy implications.
