Ladan Cockshut is a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at Durham University, actively engaged in the Creative Fuse North East (CFNE) project and the NERC-funded Java Flood One project (2020-2021), focusing on social innovation, digital economy, culture and heritage, and arts and crafts practitioners in County Durham through action research methodologies.
Her educational background centers on a PhD virtual ethnography examining group formation, competition, and performance dynamics within World of Warcraft, informing her interdisciplinary approach to digital cultures and game-based interactions.
Her research spans social innovation, creative sector policy, games design and pedagogy, gamification, cultural representations in games, creativity studies, and arts-based qualitative methods, with strong emphasis on applying digital technologies to cultural and environmental challenges.
Ladan previously contributed to Durham University's initial Creative Fuse phase (2017-2019) and the ERDF-funded Water Hub project (2019-2020), and served as Senior Lecturer in computer games at Teesside University (2015-2017), demonstrating consistent expertise in digital innovation and applied research.
Her funded work includes NERC and ERDF-supported projects, particularly the Java Flood One initiative implementing creative participatory methods for flood warning systems in Indonesia, highlighting her commitment to transdisciplinary solutions for societal challenges.
