Lachlan Moldenhauer

Dr. Lachlan Moldenhauer is a Grant-Funded Researcher (B) at the University of Adelaide's School of Biomedicine within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. His research focuses on understanding maternal immune system dynamics during pregnancy, particularly how immune dysfunction contributes to infertility, miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, and preterm birth. He investigates metabolic, genetic, and male partner factors influencing immune tolerance and explores potential therapeutics for pregnancy complications.

Dr. Moldenhauer's work emphasizes the role of regulatory T cells (Tregs), progesterone signaling, and cytokine regulation in maintaining a supportive uterine environment. His research employs mouse models to study immune-metabolic interactions, vascular remodeling, and the impact of external factors like diet and inflammation on pregnancy outcomes. He is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students.

Key areas of exploration include the therapeutic potential of IL-2 complexes, toll-like receptor modulation, and the effects of seminal fluid on immune tolerance. His findings aim to translate into clinical strategies for women facing recurrent miscarriages or preterm labor.
