Dr. LaVelle Hendricks is Professor of Counseling in the College of Education and Human Services at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He earned his Ed.D. in Counseling from TAMUC (1996), M.Ed. from University of Louisiana Monroe (1985), and B.A. in Legal Issues from Northeast Louisiana University (1983). His office is located in Binnion Hall 206.
Research focuses on critical social issues:
- Addiction treatment and prevention strategies
- Student affairs in higher education
- Culturally-responsive counseling approaches
- Community mental health interventions
His publications address substance abuse history, anger management through faith-based approaches, and cultural dimensions of mental health. Recent work examines student engagement with social justice movements and work-life balance in minority communities.
Significant honors include:
- Erma J. Hadley Academic Award (2023)
- Multiple community service awards recognizing addiction work
- Faculty development honors from Texas higher education associations
Dr. Hendricks teaches specialized courses including Anger Management, Bullying Prevention, Cultural Enrichment, and Chemical Dependency Assessment. He maintains memberships in NAACP, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and student affairs associations.
