LOH Kian Ping is a Provost’s Chair Professor at the Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore (NUS). He holds a D.Phil. from Oxford University and a B.Sc. (Hons) from NUS. His research focuses on 2D quantum materials, including covalent organic frameworks, hybrid perovskites, and graphene-based systems. Key contributions include pioneering work on self-intercalation in 2D materials, chiral perovskite spintronics, and wafer-scale graphene production.
Research highlights include the development of ferroelectric hybrid perovskites with tunable Rashba effects and the synthesis of molecularly thin organic-inorganic perovskites. His group has cultivated over 15 faculty members globally and collaborates with industries on semiconductor lithography and energy technologies. Awards include the President’s Science Award 2014 and American Chemical Society Nano Lectureship Award 2013.
Current projects span 2D quantum materials convergence technologies, spin Hall effect engineering, and scalable fabrication of functional membranes. His work bridges chemistry and materials science, addressing challenges in energy storage, optoelectronics, and nanoelectronics.
