LAURA GALLARDO NUELL

**Laura Gallardo Nuell** is a pre-doctoral researcher (R1) at the *Integrative Systems Medicine and Biology* department. Her work focuses on metabolic and neurodegenerative mechanisms, particularly linking adipose tissue gene expression with microbiome-cerebral interactions. She is part of the *Nutrition, Eumetabolism and Health* research group under Prof. JORDI MAYNERIS PERXACHS, investigating diabetes, cardiovascular risk, and cognitive decline through metabolomic and microbiomic approaches.

Her research explores the interplay between serum ferritin levels and cardiovascular outcomes in diabetes, as well as metformin’s effects on cognition via gut microbiome modulation. Projects are funded by the *INSTITUTO DE SALUD CARLOS III*, with grants focusing on vascular health and aging populations.
