Professor L. Pauline Rankin is a distinguished academic serving as Professor and Provost at Carleton University, and currently Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. With a PhD from Carleton, her expertise spans gender and politics, feminist activism, and Canadian studies. She has held leadership roles including Director of the Feminist Institute of Social Transformation (2000-2005) and School of Canadian Studies (2005-2007). Her research focuses on gender equality measurement, women’s movements, and gender mainstreaming, supported by international consultancy work in countries like Ukraine, China, and Ethiopia.
Education: B.A. (Toronto), M.A., Ph.D. (Carleton).
Research emphasizes transnational activism, gender leadership, and nation branding. Current projects include the Gender Equality Measurement initiative examining the 'measurement turn' in public policy.
Key Awards: Teaching Excellence Awards from Carleton Students’ Association (1993, 1994) and a Teaching Achievement Award (2002).
Advising includes supervising five graduate students across Canadian Studies programs. She co-authored Politics As If Women Mattered (1993) and edited works on gender and public policy. Her international workshops and seminars have shaped gender policy frameworks globally.
