Kürşad Kadir Eriş

Prof. Dr. Kürşad Kadir Eriş is a Professor in the Department of Geological Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), part of the Faculty of Mining and Geological Engineering. His academic career includes roles such as Director of the Research and Application Center (since 2018) and Deputy Head of Department (2021–present). He holds a PhD in Earth System Science from ITU (2003) and has extensive experience in Marine Geology, Sedimentology, and Paleoclimatology.

Research Focus: Eriş specializes in reconstructing paleoenvironments and climate changes through sediment cores and seismic data. Key areas include lake and sea level fluctuations (e.g., Urmia Lake, Gulf of Saros), earthquake-induced sedimentation (e.g., Kumburgaz Basin), and Holocene-Pleistocene transitions. His work integrates geophysical, geochemical, and palynological methods to address environmental and tectonic dynamics.

Recent Projects: Includes offshore wind site investigations in Turkey’s Aegean region, seismic studies of the North Anatolian Fault, and paleoceanographic reconstructions in the Sea of Marmara. He leads projects funded by TÜBİTAK and BAP, focusing on environmental and geological hazards.
