Kyoung Hee Kim is a Professor of Architecture and Director of the Integrated Design Research Lab (IDRL) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She specializes in net-zero design, regenerative building technologies, and sustainable architecture. Her research focuses on nature-based decarbonization, renewable energy integration, and bioclimatic design solutions for resilient built environments.
Dr. Kim holds advanced degrees from Chungbuk National University (Korea) and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She has secured over $2 million in NSF and federal grants, leading interdisciplinary projects on algae-based construction materials and smart city innovations. Her work is featured in peer-reviewed journals, international conferences, and platforms like the US-ASEAN Green Building Hub.
As a registered architect and founder of EcoClosure, she bridges academic research with professional practice, advocating for patentable green technologies and campus sustainability. Recent projects include algae concrete development and the Crownshyness microalgae window installation at UNC Charlotte's Innovation Barn.
