Kylie Harmon (she/her/hers) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise Science at Syracuse University, where she is part of the Aging, Behavioral Health, and Neuroscience research cluster. Prior to this role, she held positions at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and California State University, Fullerton. Harmon is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Education (Exercise Physiology Track) from UCF (2022), an M.S. in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton (2016), and a B.A. in Russian Studies from Binghamton University (2013).
Harmon’s research interests focus on neuromuscular adaptations related to aging, immobilization/disuse, fatigue, and strength training, with an emphasis on motor unit behavior and corticospinal pathway dynamics. She explores strategies to preserve muscular strength during periods of restricted resistance training, such as illness, injury, or recovery phases.
She has received notable awards and grants, including the Richard Tucker Gerontology Applied Research Grant, UCF Graduate Dean’s Completion Fellowship, and NSCA Foundation scholarships. Her professional memberships include active involvement in the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Harmon’s career includes roles as research coordinator at UCF’s Neuromuscular Plasticity Laboratory (within the Institute of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation Science) and director of the Human Performance Laboratory during her M.S. studies at California State University, Fullerton.
