Kyle Graham Cologne, MD is a Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and serves as Associate Program Director for the Colorectal Surgery Residency. He joined Keck Medicine of USC in 2012 and specializes in laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for colon and rectal cancer, complex endoscopic polyp removal, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal disorders. With over 1,500 major colorectal procedures performed, Dr. Cologne is board certified in both general surgery and colorectal surgery.
Dr. Cologne's research interests focus on surgical education, colon and rectal cancer, endoscopy, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal disorders. His work spans clinical outcomes research, surgical technique innovation, and quality improvement initiatives in colorectal surgery. He has particular expertise in negative pressure wound therapy applications, rectal cancer management, and optimizing surgical preparation and recovery protocols.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on improving surgical outcomes through technological innovation (particularly in wound care), refining cancer treatment protocols, enhancing preoperative planning, and addressing systemic issues in healthcare delivery. The research shows consistent emphasis on quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based approaches to colorectal surgical care.

Dr. Cologne serves as Chair of the Department of Surgery Quality Committee and is the Physician Champion for the institution's national quality improvement program. He is actively involved in surgical education as section editor for the Diseases of the Colon and Rectum Journal and host of its podcast. Previously, he served as Social Media Committee Chair for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) and past-president of the Southern California Chapter of the ASCRS.
His leadership extends to developing innovative surgical techniques, implementing quality improvement initiatives across multiple healthcare systems, and advancing the field through editorial work and peer review for numerous scientific journals.
