Dr. Kyle Anne Nelson is Professor and Chair of the Sociology Department at the University of Northern Colorado, College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She specializes in immigration, racial inequality, and health disparities, with fieldwork focused on refugee integration in Colorado communities.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Sociology, University of Maryland
- M.P.H. in International Health, George Washington University
- B.A. in Sociology and Spanish, Colgate University
Her research examines refugee resettlement patterns, Latino educational outcomes, and structural inequities. Recent publications analyze transnational refugee identities, meatpacking town demographics, and cultural narratives in migrant communities. Methodologically, she employs mixed-methods approaches including ethnography and demographic analysis.
Honors include the 2022 Excellence in Service Award and the 2013 Engaged Research Award. She authored the textbook 'Magic Eye of Sociology' and leads community projects like the Bridge to Graduation program for Latino youth.
She serves as Department Chair since 2014 and previously worked as a health policy analyst at George Washington University. Her community engagement includes board membership at the Global Refugee Center (2013-2017).
