Kyle A. Grice is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within DePaul University's College of Science and Health. He was promoted to Full Professor as of July 2024 and maintains an active research program alongside his teaching responsibilities. His office is located in McGowan South 321C at DePaul's Lincoln Park Campus in Chicago.
Dr. Grice's research focuses on inorganic chemistry relevant to large societal challenges, particularly metal complexes for converting carbon dioxide back into useful chemicals, the roles metals play in enzyme active sites targeted in disease states, and platinum complexes for selective C-H bond functionalization. His laboratory employs techniques including organic and inorganic synthesis, multiple NMR spectroscopy methods, IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, electrochemical methods, and computational chemistry.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on CO2 reduction catalysis, bioinorganic chemistry related to enzyme inhibition, and sustainable chemistry practices. His work spans fundamental research on metal complexes while addressing practical applications in energy conversion and green chemistry. He frequently collaborates with researchers both within DePaul and at external institutions including Lewis University, Rosalind Franklin University, and North Carolina State University.
Dr. Grice serves as Director of Advising for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, is a member of the SI advisory committee for LSP, edits for DePaul Discoveries Leadership Council, and is active in IONiC. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and regularly presents at national conferences including ACS meetings.
In addition to his research, Dr. Grice teaches across the chemistry curriculum including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Organic and Biological Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, Inorganic Chemistry, and Masters-level courses in Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry. He has developed a Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) for inorganic chemistry laboratory and encourages undergraduate and Masters students to participate in research projects relating to strong bond transformations, green chemistry, and bioinorganic chemistry.
