Dr. Kyeong-Soo Kim is a Lecturer in The Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University, affiliated with the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. Her expertise lies in translation studies, Korean literature, and cognitive linguistics. She holds a PhD from SOAS-University of London (2017), where her thesis applied relevance theory to English translations of Korean fiction. She also studied Japanese at SOAS to enhance her analysis of East Asian literature.
Her teaching career began in 2009 as External Academic Support in Korean Studies, followed by roles as a Graduate Assistant teaching translation and literature courses. At JHU since Spring 2019, she focuses on writing and translation pedagogy.
Research interests include cross-cultural translation challenges, pragmatics in literary translation, and comparative analysis of Korean and Japanese literary works.
