Dr. Kwame Sakyi is an Associate Professor of Public Health at Oakland University's School of Health Sciences. He holds a PhD in International Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, an MSPH in Social and Behavioral Interventions, and a BA in Biochemistry from Albion College. His work focuses on maternal, neonatal, and child health in low-resource settings, particularly Ghana. He leads an NIH-funded R25 grant examining HIV care retention among postpartum women with low birthweight infants, and directs the Center for Learning and Childhood Development-Ghana, a nonprofit advancing early childhood development.
Research interests include infectious diseases (HIV/malaria), developmental disabilities, and mental health. Notable projects address neonatal hypothermia monitoring in Ghana, barriers to cerebral palsy care, and postpartum depression among preterm infant mothers. His work emphasizes translating research into interventions that improve health equity.
