Kurt Schneider

Kurt Schneider, born in 1969, serves as senior academic and managing director of the Center for Media Competence (ZFM) at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen's Faculty of Philosophy, Institute of Media Studies. He holds an MA degree and has built a distinguished career bridging academic scholarship with professional media production.

His educational background includes studies in history, Slavic studies, and political science at the University of Tübingen, where he graduated from the Institute for East European Studies in 1998. His professional journey transitioned from academic pursuits to media production, gaining extensive experience in film production through the former media department of the Faculty of Modern Languages.

Dr. Schneider's research interests center on media practice, film and media project production and editing, and multimedia media consulting. He emphasizes practical training that introduces students to the concrete demands and production conditions of the media market. His work demonstrates strong connections between academic research and industry applications, particularly through his longstanding collaboration with Südwestrundfunk (SWR) and other media organizations.

His publication record reveals a consistent focus on documentary filmmaking, film history, and cultural representation, with particular attention to German cinema, historical figures, and the intersection of media with broader social and political contexts. As managing director of the Center for Media Literacy, Schneider plays a significant role in transfer-oriented teaching and service learning with external partners. He has been instrumental in developing the media designer training program for image and sound in collaboration with SWR. His leadership extends to various committees, including the Committee for the Media and Film Industry in Baden-Württemberg and the jury for the 'idee-bw' competition. He currently organizes the annual Tübingen Documentary Film Festival tüDOK with master's students in media studies, showcasing internationally successful productions on specific thematic frameworks.

His current research projects include the E-Adapt project establishing an international network for adaptive learning and teaching, and several 360-degree projects developed with the Hector Institute for Empirical Educational Research, the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media, and other educational research institutions, focusing on immersive applications in museum and exhibition contexts.
