Kurt Arden is a Lecturer in Veterinary Public Health at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), affiliated with the Department of Pathobiology & Population Sciences at the Hawkshead campus. He contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate programs, serving as strand leader for Population Medicine and Veterinary Public Health and as module convenor for Veterinary Public Health (LVM006). He has prior academic experience at the University of Liverpool and Massey University in New Zealand.
His educational background includes a veterinary degree from the University of Nottingham (2016) and a Master of Veterinary Science in Conservation Medicine from the University of Edinburgh (2020). He is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health (ECVPH) and a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) specialist in Veterinary Public Health (Meat Hygiene).
Kurt's research centers on Veterinary Public Health with a strong emphasis on One Health, food safety, antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic diseases, and the livestock-wildlife interface. His work integrates public health, animal production, and environmental sustainability, particularly through farm-to-fork risk analysis and abattoir surveillance. He is actively involved in curriculum development and has advised on VPH education globally.
His recent publications (2022–2024) explore trends in veterinary education, farmer engagement with One Health principles, and zoonotic pathogen prevalence in rodent populations. These reflect a multidisciplinary approach combining epidemiology, public health policy, and educational research.

Kurt supervises BSc, BVetMed, and MSc student research projects in veterinary public health and conservation medicine. He has contributed to curriculum design at institutions such as St George's University and has served as an expert panelist for the Royal Society of Chemistry on One Health and antimicrobial resistance. He is a council member of the Veterinary Public Health Association and part of the UK One Health Coordination Group.
He is affiliated with research groups in Sustainable Food Systems, Food Safety, and Antimicrobial Resistance, and contributes to the Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics and Public Health Centre at RVC.
