His research interests center on pediatric anesthesia safety, postoperative complications, pharmacokinetics of sedatives, and improving outcomes for children undergoing procedures. He has a strong focus on postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), malignant hyperthermia, intubation safety, and bleeding risks in pediatric patients. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
The recent publications and ongoing projects highlight a consistent trend in clinical trials involving pediatric sedation, pharmacokinetic studies, and systematic reviews for pain and nausea management. His work bridges anesthesiology, infectious disease, and public health, with increasing emphasis on device-drug combinations and perioperative optimization.
Dr. Belani leads and collaborates on multiple federally and industry-funded research projects, including NIH- and AHRQ-supported grants. He is Principal Investigator on trials evaluating remimazolam and amisulpride in pediatric populations, and co-investigator on projects related to cyanide poisoning treatment and peripheral nerve blocks for postoperative analgesia.
- Phase 2b trial of remimazolam for pediatric sedation (PAION)
- NIH-funded drug-device combination for cyanide poisoning
- AHRQ systematic review on nerve blocks for pain
- Phase 2/3 trial of IV amisulpride for PONV prevention (Acacia Pharma)
He has contributed to media discussions during the pandemic, including innovations to protect healthcare workers, and continues to publish in high-impact anesthesiology and medical journals.
