Dr. Ksenia Zanon serves as a University Assistant Professor in the Slavonic Studies section of the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge. Concurrently, she holds a Fellowship and Director of Studies position at Christ's College, overseeing Modern & Medieval Languages (Part 1B and Year Abroad) and Linguistics programs.
Her educational background includes a dual Ph.D. in Linguistics and East European Languages and Cultures from Indiana University. This foundational training bridges theoretical linguistics and regional language expertise.
Dr. Zanon's research centers on generative syntactic theory with specialization in East and South Slavic languages. She investigates quantification, syntactic interface interactions, interrogatives, and information structure through empirical analysis of Slavic data. Her work consistently connects theoretical frameworks with language-specific phenomena, particularly in Russian syntax.
Recent publications analyze narrative imperatives, wh-indefinites in Russian, and expletive negation, demonstrating her focus on formal syntactic mechanisms within Slavic languages. These contributions appear in leading linguistics venues including the Advances in Formal Slavic Linguistics series and the Journal of Slavic Linguistics, reflecting sustained engagement with core theoretical questions.
Dr. Zanon actively supervises postgraduate research and welcomes inquiries from prospective MPhil and PhD students whose interests align with her expertise in Slavic syntax and linguistic theory. Her teaching portfolio spans Russian language, History of Russian, Slavonic languages, Linguistic Theory, and Syntax across undergraduate and graduate programs.
