Krystal Demaine is a Professor in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Endicott College, specializing in Expressive Therapies. She holds a Ph.D. in Expressive Therapies (Lesley University, 2012), an M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology (Cambridge College, 2004), and a B.M. in Music Therapy (Berklee College of Music, 2000). As a Board-Certified Music Therapist, Registered Expressive Arts Therapist, and Yoga Teacher, her work integrates music, visual arts, creative writing, somatics, breathwork, and meditation to address trauma, grief, and neurologic challenges.
Her leadership roles include Director for North America at the International Association for Creative Arts in Education and Therapy, Beverly Cultural Council Arts Representative, and Chair of the IEATA Northeast Professional Development Committee. She founded the biennial Endicott College Expressive Therapies Symposium, focusing on themes like Traditional Chinese Medicine (2019), Contemplative Practices (2022), and Nature & Ecology (2024).
Research interests span trauma-sensitive practices, integrative medicine, and cultural intersections in expressive therapies. Her publications include the 2022 book *The Roots and Rhythm of the Heart* and the forthcoming *Expressive Therapeutic Writing* (Routledge, 2024). Her articles explore music therapy in autism, digital art therapy in Japan, and TCM integration with expressive modalities.
Awardees include Trauma and Resilience Specialist certification (2022), Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider (2022), and Neurologic Music Therapy Fellowships (2005, 2008). She teaches courses like Foundations of Creative Therapies, Music Therapy Foundations, and Senior Research/Thesis guidance.
