Kei Slaughter is an Associate Professor in the Music Therapy department at Berklee College of Music, where they integrate their dual expertise as a board-certified music therapist and vocalist-composer. Rooted in African American contemplative practices and Black diasporic musical traditions, their work centers liberation, relational care, and cultural resonance.

Research spans music therapy with marginalized communities, including BIPOC youth, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and trauma survivors. Their artistry and scholarship intersect in exploring how improvisational music practices, Black methodologies of healing, and queer/trans Black identities can disrupt colonial paradigms in therapeutic and educational spaces.

As a practitioner, they founded S O U L F O L K Sounds, a community-engaged music and wellness initiative for Black queer and trans communities. Their pedagogical philosophy emphasizes co-creation of brave spaces, mutual learning, and music as a tool for social change.
