Dr. Krystal Cleary is Senior Professor of Practice in Communication and Gender and Sexuality Studies at Tulane University. Her research employs feminist disability studies and queer theory to analyze representations of disability in reality television and popular culture. She examines how reality TV structures narratives through dis/ability logics, investigates disability drag in fan practices, and develops justice-centered approaches to media interpretation. Her forthcoming book applies crip theory to reality television analysis.
Awards include the April Brayfield Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award and Accessibility Faculty Ally Award. Dr. Cleary teaches courses on media representation, feminist theory, and critical disability studies.
