Dr. Krysia Mazik is a Senior Lecturer in Marine Biology at the University of Hull, part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the School of Environmental Sciences. Her research focuses on structural and functional ecology of marine and estuarine benthic communities, sediment processes, pollution, toxicology, and data analysis. She has contributed over 100 technical reports for government agencies and industry, addressing marine environmental management challenges.
Key research areas include the impacts of petrochemicals on benthic communities, climate change effects on conservation features, and the evaluation of environmental status indicators. She supervises multiple PhD students, including projects on offshore wind farm impacts, seagrass conservation, and sediment dynamics. Her work aligns with initiatives like the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the Aura Centre for Doctoral Training.
Dr. Mazik's articles span topics such as offshore wind farm environmental impacts, seagrass restoration, and ecohydrology-driven estuarine restoration. Notable projects include defining favorable conservation status for seagrass beds and assessing the role of vibration in marine invertebrate behavior. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2019) and actively engages in interdisciplinary collaborations to address marine sustainability challenges.
