Dr. Kristy Doss is an Assistant Professor in the School of Teaching and Learning at Western Carolina University (WCU). She holds a PhD in Educational Psychology - Gifted and Creative Education from the University of Georgia (UGA), an MAEd in Special Education (Gifted Concentration) from WCU, and a BSED from Appalachian State University.
Her teaching focuses on the social and emotional needs of gifted and exceptional learners, research methods, emotional/behavioral disorders, and instructional technology in personalized learning. She previously served as an AIG specialist at Rugby Middle School for 20 years, delivering over 75 workshops on differentiation, writing instruction, and reading strategies. She is actively involved in professional organizations, serving on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Association for Gifted and Talented (NCAGT) and as President of NC AIG IHE.
Research interests include personalized learning environments, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), curriculum design for gifted students, flow in Makerspaces, support for twice-exceptional (2E) learners, and mindfulness in education. Her work has been recognized through awards such as the E. Paul Torrance Award for her dissertation on spiritual giftedness. She has presented at conferences like the World Gifted Conference, National Association for Gifted Children, and SOTL Commons.
