Kristoffer Strålin is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Karolinska Institute, affiliated with the Department of Medicine, Huddinge. He serves as a Senior Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the Karolinska University Hospital and leads the Sepsis and COVID-19 Research Group.
- Research Focus: Sepsis, community-acquired pneumonia, and SARS-CoV-2 infection
- Projects: National sepsis monitoring strategy, Karolinska K/KI biobank development
- Collaborations: International precision diagnostics initiatives
Research Themes span clinical and translational studies of sepsis pathophysiology, pneumonia etiology, and the immunological impacts of COVID-19. Key areas include immune subgroups in sepsis, MAIT cell dynamics, and HLA associations with disease severity. His work emphasizes biomarker discovery and precision diagnostics to improve prognostication and therapeutic strategies.
Recent publications highlight gene-expression profiling of sepsis immune subgroups, HLA-B polymorphism in severe COVID-19, and MAIT cell phenotyping. The group has developed calprotectin-based triage tools and contributed to national sepsis guidelines.
Current Funding includes ALF grants, Innovationsfonden, and EIT Health (EU) support.
