Dr. Kristine Peace is a Professor in the Department of Psychology within the Faculty of Arts and Science at MacEwan University, where she has been a faculty member since 2006. She is an active researcher and teacher specializing in forensic and social psychology, with a focus on interpersonal violence, trauma, and legal decision-making.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Psychology from Dalhousie University
- MSc in Psychology from Dalhousie University
- BA in Psychology from the University of Lethbridge
Dr. Peace's research spans several critical areas in forensic psychology. She investigates interpersonal violence (including sexual violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence), victim blaming particularly towards marginalized groups, trauma and memory processes in victimization, and legal decision-making biases. Her work often examines how psychopathic traits influence emotional processing and credibility assessments. Through the PERPLab, she and her students conduct interdisciplinary studies that bridge social and forensic psychology to address real-world issues in the justice system.
Her recent publications reflect a growing emphasis on the intersection of gender identity, sexual orientation, and victimization, as well as advancements in stalking risk assessment and victim impact statements. There is a clear trend toward community-engaged research and addressing gaps in understanding minority experiences within forensic contexts.
Dr. Peace has received several prestigious awards, including:
- MacEwan University Distinguished Teaching Award (2022)
- CAFA Distinguished Teaching Award (2020)
- Dalhousie University Sessional Instructor Award for Teaching Excellence (2004 and 2006)
- Mace Bearer at MacEwan University's Faculty of Arts and Science Convocation (2023)
She actively mentors undergraduate students through honours theses and independent studies, fostering the next generation of psychologists. Her research is supported by internal grants from MacEwan University, including the Dissemination Grant (2023), Project Grant (2022), and multiple Faculty Development Funds.
Dr. Peace leads the PERPLab (Processes in Emotion, Recollection, and Violence Perception) at MacEwan University, which focuses on the "darker side of humanity" including interpersonal violence, psychopathic traits, emotion processing, memory, and legal decision-making. The lab serves as a hub for student research and community collaboration.
