Kristine Larsen is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Space Sciences at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), where she also serves as Director of the Honors Program. She holds the distinguished title of Connecticut State University Distinguished Professor, awarded in 2023, and has been a faculty member since 1989. Her academic home is within the School of Engineering, Science, and Technology at CCSU.

Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on Tolkien’s use of astronomical motifs, medieval cosmology, and mythological themes, blending literary analysis with scientific inquiry.
Her most recent articles explore topics such as Kaiju in Tolkien’s legendarium, Tychonic cosmology in Middle-earth, black holes as fantasy gateways to hell, and the scientific underpinnings of The Rings of Power. These works demonstrate a consistent trend of applying rigorous scientific and historical analysis to fantasy literature, particularly in the context of cultural and educational outreach.
