Kristine L. Willett is Chair and Professor of Pharmacology & Environmental Toxicology in the Department of BioMolecular Sciences at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. She also holds a Research Professor appointment in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and serves as Deputy Editor of Toxicological Sciences.
- B.A. Chemistry, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (1993)
- Ph.D. Toxicology, Texas A&M University (1997)
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: Dreyfus Environmental Chemistry (Indiana University), RJR Leon Golberg Toxicology (Duke University)
Her research focuses on developmental and multigenerational toxicity of cannabinoids and benzo[a]pyrene using zebrafish models, climate change impacts on oyster populations, and community-engaged studies of lead contamination in Mississippi drinking water. Funded by NIDA, NIEHS, NOAA, and the Army Corps of Engineers, her work spans aquatic toxicology, epigenetics, and environmental health.
Kristine's recent publications highlight zebrafish as a model for cannabinoid toxicity, environmental stressors on oyster populations, and transcriptomic and epigenetic analyses. Her lab contributes cutting-edge research on multistressor impacts and consumer product safety.
Awardee of the 2023 University of Mississippi Research and Creative Achievement Award and SEC Faculty Achievement Award, she has mentored over 90 students (9 MS, 9 PhD, 70+ undergraduates). Her community outreach includes interdisciplinary lead contamination studies and science communication initiatives.
