Kristine Cerbule is an Assistant Professor at the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society, Heriot-Watt University. Her research focuses on sustainable fisheries and marine conservation, including fishing gear technology, bycatch reduction, and marine plastic pollution. She actively contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to life below water and responsible consumption.
Research interests include optimizing fishing gear efficiency, mitigating ghost fishing impacts, and assessing environmental impacts of fisheries. Her work often involves interdisciplinary collaborations, such as analyzing gear performance in diverse marine ecosystems (e.g., Barents Sea, Baltic Sea).
Recent publications highlight studies on biodegradable materials in gillnets, artificial light effects on snow crab catches, and coastal fisheries plastic pollution. She accepts PhD students and has published 42 peer-reviewed articles since 2020.
