Dr. Kristina Howansky is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at St. Mary's College of Maryland. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and Marine Biology from Rollins College (2012), an M.S. (2015), and Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Rutgers University (2019). Her research focuses on the malleability of cognitive and perceptual processes, particularly how individual and contextual factors influence social perception, self-regulation, and stigma-related outcomes.
Dr. Howansky’s work addresses topics like transgender identity perception, racial essentialism reduction in educational settings, and pro-environmental behavior through self-assessed knowledge. She employs innovative methods such as facial morphing and eye-tracking to study visual processes. Her teaching specialties include Social Psychology, Statistics, and Research Methods. She is affiliated with multiple psychology organizations including the Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
