Kristina Alstam

Kristina Alstam is a Lecturer at the Department of Social Work, University of Gothenburg. Her research focuses on structurally disadvantaged suburbs, policy formation, resource allocation in area-based security work, crime prevention, conflict escalation in gang-related environments, and ideological shifts in the welfare state under austerity.

• Current Projects: Project manager for a FORTE-funded study on gun violence and conflict escalation in gang contexts (collaboration with Linnaeus University) and process evaluation of crime prevention work at Ung Angered unit.
• Teaching: Advanced-level courses in Social Work program and Master's program.
• Podcast: Co-host of Med Kriminella Hälsningar, discussing crime prevention, prison care, and welfare state changes.

Research Interests center on gang violence, exit processes from criminal networks, manual-based social work models, and securitization trends in public policy. Her work bridges theoretical analysis with practical evaluations of community-based interventions.

Publications emphasize ethnographic approaches to child protection, gang passages, and methodological innovations in violence prevention. Articles span from 2012 to 2024, reflecting sustained focus on urban inequality and welfare state dynamics.
