Kristin Y. Pettersen

Kristin Y. Pettersen is a Professor at the Department of Engineering Cybernetics, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), affiliated with the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. She holds an adjunct professorship at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) and co-founded Eelume AS as its first CEO. She earned her PhD and MSc in Engineering Cybernetics from NTNU.

Her research focuses on nonlinear control theory, marine robotics, autonomous vehicles, and cooperative control systems. Notable projects include leading the ERC-funded CRÈME project on light vehicle-manipulator systems and the NTNU VISTA Center for autonomous robotic operations subsea (CAROS).

Awarded membership in the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (2025), the IEEE CSS Bode Lecture Prize (2020), and IEEE Fellow (2017), she has also received multiple outstanding paper awards. She currently supervises 16 PhD students and has guided 30 graduates.

Her professional roles include board memberships at Eelume AS, IEEE Control Systems Society, and international organizations like IFAC. She has led strategic initiatives such as the NTNU Strategic ICT Programme in Robotics and served as Head of Department for Engineering Cybernetics (2011–2013).

Her work integrates theoretical control advancements with practical applications in marine robotics and subsea operations, contributing to both academia and industry through collaborative projects with Equinor, Statoil, and others.
