Kristin Palm Kaplan is a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Gävle University. Her research focuses on algebra education, curriculum reforms, and the intersection of educational policies with international assessments like TIMSS. She holds a doctoral degree from Uppsala University (2019), where her thesis examined changes in algebra content in Swedish lower secondary textbooks (1995–2015) and evaluated curriculum reforms through TIMSS data.
Her work analyzes how textbooks implement curricula and assesses student learning outcomes using large-scale assessment frameworks. Key areas include curriculum reform processes, algebraic competence development, and the transferability of mathematical skills across contexts.
Publications highlight her contributions to understanding textbook evolution, algebraic generalization, and the relationship between arithmetic and algebraic problem-solving. She has presented at international conferences such as the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (CERME), addressing topics like algebraic discourse and mathematical generalization through reference changes.
