Professor Kristin Joachimsen holds a prominent academic position at MF University College of Theology, Religion and Society and the Department of Archaeology, History, Religious Studies and Theology at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. She specializes in Old Testament studies, focusing on the Persian and Hellenistic periods with an emphasis on historiography, identity construction, and postcolonial theory. Her current research includes a monograph on cultural translation in Ezra and Nehemiah, analyzing fluid identity discourses through theoretical frameworks like boundary studies and memory theory. She teaches courses such as ‘Exodus: Text, Reception and Method’ and ‘Theory of Science and Research Ethics,’ reflecting her commitment to methodological rigor and interdisciplinary approaches.
Her educational background includes a Dr. theology from the University of Oslo (2007) and extensive leadership roles, including Head of Department (2005–2009) and Associate Professor at the University of Tromsø (2002–2015). She has held significant administrative positions, such as membership in the Department Council for Theology and History (2016–present) and roles in national academic councils.
Research interests span the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther, along with prophetic literature like Isaiah. She employs memory studies, gender theory, and postcolonial approaches to explore themes like identity, othering, and cultural hybridity. Notable projects include PERSIAS, studying Jewish perceptions of Persia, and the BiT project examining biblical education in Norwegian congregations.
Her recent publications (2019–2025) address topics such as cultural boundaries in Ezra-Nehemiah, Jezebel’s reception, and Exodus narratives’ mobility themes. These works reflect her analytical depth and engagement with both ancient texts and modern theoretical frameworks.
Professor Joachimsen actively contributes to academic governance and interfaith dialogue, serving on theological committees and producing reports on church-Jewish relations. Her work bridges scholarly rigor with practical theological education, making her a leading figure in Scandinavian religious studies.
