Kristin Flugel is a Researcher in the Institute of Educational Science at Ruhr University Bochum, affiliated with the Faculty of Philosophy and Education. She is part of the SFB 1567 'Virtual Lifeworlds' project B03.1, focusing on 'Virtual Education: Formations and Transformations of Educational Knowledge.' Her work investigates (educational) knowledge practices in virtual contexts, discriminatory differentiation practices, and qualitative-reconstructive research methods.
Her research emphasizes documentary methods, photo group discussions, and ethnography. Key publications include contributions to the edited volume Vokabular des Virtuellen (2024) and articles in ZSE Journal for the Sociology of Education and Socialization. She has presented at conferences such as the DGfE Commission for Qualitative Educational Research and the ces Annual Conference on the Documentary Method.
Flugel’s doctoral project explores 'Reflexivity and Resentment: On the Perception, Processing, and Production of Difference,' analyzing how difference is negotiated in educational and societal contexts. Her methodological innovations include using photographs as stimuli in group discussions to study discriminatory attitudes.
