Kristin Delia Hayes, D.M., is a Lecturer of Music at St. Mary’s University and Our Lady of the Lake University, with prior teaching roles at the University of Texas San Antonio and Florida State University. She specializes in flute performance, Baroque recorder, and music education, emphasizing somatic-based philosophies in teaching. She coordinates OLLU’s Music Internship Program and leads woodwind ensembles. Hayes is founder and President of the San Antonio Flute Association and a woodwind coach for the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA).
Education: B.M. (Tennessee Technological University), M.M. (University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music), D.M. (Florida State University in Flute Performance). Her doctoral treatise focused on Charles Oliver DeLaney’s compositional style. She has studied under notable teachers including Eva Amsler and Mary Posses.
Research interests include pain-free music-making through Body Mapping and Dalcroze Eurhythmics, which she promotes via workshops and publications. Her performances span orchestras like the San Antonio Symphony and collaborations with the pHduo, resulting in album releases and premieres of commissioned works.
Hayes actively serves on national committees (NFA Pedagogy Committee) and adjudicates competitions (NFA Young Artist, MTNA). She has presented at festivals like the National Flute Association Convention and led masterclasses across North and Central America.
Her professional networks include leadership roles in the San Antonio Flute Association and YOSA, alongside international collaborations like the Arte Antigua Ensemble in Guatemala.
