Kristin Collins is the James E. and Sarah A. Degan Professor of Law at the University of Michigan. She has previously served as a Professor of Law at Boston University (2006–2023) and as an Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development (2016–2017). Her current scholarship focuses on immigration and citizenship law, federal courts, civil procedure, and legal history.

Her research explores the intersection of family ties with citizenship and immigration regulation, particularly how these dynamics influence national exclusionary power versus familial rights to reside together. She has advised federal courts on immigration and citizenship issues, including the U.S. Supreme Court citing her work.
Collins drafted the Equal Citizenship for Children Act of 2023 to address sex and illegitimacy discrimination in U.S. citizenship law. Her scholarship has been published in the Harvard Law Review, Yale Law Journal, and Law & History Review.
