Kristi Upson-Saia is the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and David B. and Mary H. Gamble Professor of Religious Studies at Occidental College, Los Angeles, USA. She holds a B.A. from the University of Washington, M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. from Duke University, and has been appointed since 2006. Her work bridges late ancient Mediterranean religions, dress/performativity, and history of medicine/healing.

Her research explores religious dress as a marker of identity and authority in late antiquity, culminating in two Routledge books (2011, 2014), and shifted to medicine/healing, co-founding the international ReMeDHe working group and editing the Religion, Medicine and Health in Late Antiquity book series. Her 2023 UC Press book integrates these themes.
Kristi teaches specialized courses such as Magic, Miracle, and Medicine in Antiquity, "Good" Sex: History of Sexual Ethics, and Death, Dying, and the Afterlife in the Ancient Mediterranean World. She co-teaches the Health & Humanity First-Year Seminar with Philosophy and Economics faculty and pioneered the Turkey: Then & Now field study program.
