Kristi Oliver is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Art Education at the University of Florida’s School of Art + Art History. She currently serves as Professional Development Manager at Davis Publications (Worcester, MA), supporting art educators since 1901. With 15+ years of teaching experience across high school and university levels, her work focuses on enhancing art education accessibility for all learners.
Dr. Oliver holds a PhD in Educational Studies from Lesley University, where her research explored high school photography teachers’ perspectives on visual literacy. She serves as editor of the National Art Education Association’s Translations journal, bridging research and pedagogical practice.
Her research interests include visual literacy, 21st-century art education, contemporary photography pedagogy, slow pedagogy, and contemplative practices. Recent publications appear in International Journal of Education Through Art, Dev Sanskriti, and edited volumes like Critical Digital Making and Revolutionizing Arts Education.
Dr. Oliver has presented at major conferences including the International Visual Literacy Conference, InSEA World Congress, and AERA Annual Meeting. Awards include NAEA’s Eastern Region Award (2020), Massachusetts Art Educator of the Year, and recognition as an Outstanding Arts Advocate by Arts|Learning.
She previously served as President of the Massachusetts Art Education Association and currently holds roles in NAEA’s Research Commission and Eastern Region leadership. Her studio artwork has been exhibited nationally and published in Developing a Visually Reflective Practice and Well Wed Magazine.
