Kristi Hardman is an Assistant Professor of Music Theory at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She earned her Ph.D. in Music Theory from the Graduate Center, City University of New York (2022), an M.A. in Music Theory from the University of British Columbia, and B.A. degrees in Music and Education from the University of Manitoba.
Research Interests:
- Computer-assisted analysis of music
- Intersections between sound qualities, rhythm, and form
- Text/music relations and transcription ethics
- Indigenous and popular music of North America
- Music theory pedagogy
Publication Trends: Her work explores Indigenous sound studies, popular music analysis, and cross-cultural musical techniques, often employing computational methods to examine sonic qualities and structural elements.

Prior to UNC Charlotte, she taught at Colgate University, Hunter College, and the University of British Columbia, alongside K–12 music education in public schools.
