معرفی
Kristi Alnek is a Junior Research Fellow in Immunology at the Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tartu. She has been working at the University of Tartu since 2007 in various research and specialist roles, with her current position starting in September 2020. She is also pursuing her PhD under the supervision of Aili Tagoma and Raivo Uibo, focusing on "Heterogeinity of immunological endotypes in diabetes."
Education:
- Master's Degree in Health Sciences (Public Health), University of Tartu (2013)
- Medical Laboratory Science, Tartu Applied Health Sciences University (2010)
Research Interests:
Kristi Alnek's research primarily focuses on immunology and diabetes, with particular emphasis on gestational diabetes, autoimmunity, and the gut microbiome. Her work explores the immunological mechanisms in diabetes, particularly examining autoantibodies, gut bacteriome, and immune responses in mothers with gestational diabetes and their offspring. She investigates how gut microbiota composition relates to immune responses and how these factors might contribute to the development of diabetes and related conditions.
Publication Trends:
Analysis of Kristi Alnek's recent publications (2023-2025) reveals a strong focus on the intersection of gestational diabetes, gut microbiome, and immunological responses. Her work frequently examines Bifidobacterium species, Clostridium butyricum, and other gut bacteria in relation to immune markers in mothers and children. A significant portion of her research uses advanced techniques like flow cytometry to detect specific antibodies. Her publications span high-impact immunology and diabetes journals, demonstrating her growing contribution to these fields.
Scientific Awards:
- 2024: Award for best poster presentation in doctoral students at the Science Day of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tartu
Grants and Projects:
Kristi Alnek is involved in several major research projects, primarily as a team member under principal investigator Raivo Uibo. These include "Immune mechanisms in adulthood diabetes" (2020-2025, €1,299,025 funding) and "Human Exposomic Determinants of Immune Mediated Diseases" (2020-2025, €417,811 funding). Her earlier work contributed to projects on "Immune mechanisms in diabetes" (2014-2019) and "Role of antineural autoimmune reactions in the development of autonomic neuropathy associated with diabetes" (2009-2012).
Research Environment:
Kristi Alnek works within the Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine at the University of Tartu, collaborating with the HEDIMED (Human Exposomic Determinants of Immune Mediated Diseases) Investigator group. Her research involves interdisciplinary collaboration between immunologists, microbiologists, diabetologists, and bioinformaticians, reflecting the complex nature of her work at the intersection of microbiome science and immunology.
