Kristen Franyutti is an Assistant Professor of Drawing + Fiber Education at Arkansas State University, housed within the College of Liberal Arts and Communication. She holds an M.F.A. from Michigan State University (2017) and a B.F.A. in Fashion Design from the University of North Texas (2011). Her interdisciplinary practice merges art with scientific inquiry, focusing on genetic engineering, fictional microcosms, and the intersection of applied science with human anatomy and wearable art.
Franyutti’s work has been exhibited globally, including at the A.I.R Gallery (Brooklyn), the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum (Michigan), and the Bradbury Art Museum (Arkansas). She is affiliated with CAA and FATE, and her research explores speculative biology, material innovation, and the body’s relationship to technology. Previously, she taught Foundations at Michigan State University and has lived in Dallas, Manhattan, Detroit, Arkansas, and Michigan.
Her creative outputs blend fiber arts, mixed media, and drawing to visualize futuristic biological systems and socio-scientific narratives. Though no specific grants or awards are listed here, her exhibitions and publications in Fiber Art Now reflect recognition in textile and conceptual art domains.
